- Mr. Cormier is in high demand as a solo performer, chamber musician, accompanist, studio musician, adjudicator, and as a teacher. He has won top honours at the Newfoundland Music Festival, Nova Scotia Music Festival, Newfoundland Arts and Letters Competition and has been awarded grants from the Newfoundland & Labrador Arts Council, Nova Scotia Department of Tourism and Culture and Acadia University.
Born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Eugene received his Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance from Acadia University under the guidance of Ken Davidson. After completing his degree he travelled to Toronto, where he did graduate studies with Eli Kassner. He has also attended masterclasses/studied with: David Russell, David Tanenbaum, Alvaro Pierri, Pavel Steidl, Dale Kavanaugh, Hubert Kappel, Bruce Holzman, Stephen Robinson, Gerald Garcia, Chris Stell, Sylvie Proulx and Stephan Fentok.
Eugene is the founder of the new Halifax Guitar Society, Halifax Guitar Festival and Halifax Guitar Trio. He currently teaches classical guitar, guitar ensemble, classroom guitar, music technology and preliminary rudiments at Acadia University, in Wolfville Nova Scotia.
Eugene has participated in Acadia's groundbreaking "MusicPath" Program, has taught/performed at the International Acadia Guitar Festival since it's inception and is a member of the Acadia Festival Society.
